Mega Million Dollar Dress

Today is the big day! The day of the mega million lottery. $640 million dollars. I'm pretty sure that with our economy in the state it is in, the winner will meet an unnatural end.  Either that or live in a constant state of depression due to the persistent nagging by family and friends, asking for money.

That being said, I didn't buy a ticket.  I have the worst luck in the entire world and I have never won a thing in my life.  Therefore, I decided that for me it would be a waste of a dollar.  So I took that dollar, and bought this dress instead.

It's not $640 million dollars, but it's still quite the deal.
Peace, my little darlings.

Happy Best Friday Ever!

Why, you may ask, is this the best friday ever? I have the day off! No class, and no work.  For absolutely no reason! For the first friday in...hmm, months probably. So what is a girl like me going to do with a Friday all to herself?  This is precisely what I was wondering about 10 minutes ago.  Until I turned on the television to see that our cable provider has given us a free weekend of premium movie channels.

Shirt: Handmade by me Skirt: Clearance at Gap ($4) Boots: Thrifted ($3)

I couldn't pass up this lighthouse fabric. And these boots were spectacular, I got them for a steal at $2.99.  I had to fix the zipper on them, but now they are my loves.  Even caused a group of guys to yell, "Hey Hipster Lady" at me while I was downtown.  At least they got the lady part right. :)

Anyway, so the rest of my magical free-movie no obligation friday consists of:

1. A bottle of Francis Ford Coppola's Sante Pinot Noir
2. Midnight in Paris (My pick)
3. Burlesque (David's pick)
4. African Cats (Alex's pick)
4. Dinner with my lovely roommates (present and future)

Hope your Friday is as fantastic as mine is!

Making your wardrobe work for you.

I have some pretty crazy clothes, with some ridiculous graphics.  Fruit, hedgehogs, sailboats, dogs, dinosaurs.  But I do have a job that requires me to dress semi-professionally, so sometimes my puppy vest has to be traded in for something a little more understated.  But my favorite part of simple business pieces is that they are so versatile.  Take this very simple navy dress. I got it for 4 dollars at a thrift store, and it fit perfectly.

But I can take this dress, and wear it in the following four different ways.

Dress: Thrifted. Cardigan: Target. Blue Shirt: Anthropologie. White Shirt: American Eagle.  Sweater: Thrifted. Shoes: Urban Outfitters

It's the perfect way to trick the people you work with into thinking you have tons of clothes, when really you are simply resourceful.  The multiple ways I can wear them make these dresses some of my favorites.

Wearing Elderly Lingerie in Public

Is it normal to wear this lingerie that is clearly designed for a grandmother in public? Probably not.
Am I going to do it anyway?
 Definitely.

I found this...nightgown(?) at a thrift store for $2.99.  It seems like a cross between lingerie and 80's workout attire.  It even has those creepy boob pockets in the front.  And yet...I bought it.  My boyfriend literally laughed at me when I tried it on for the before picture.
Alex-"Oh wow...umm shiny teal.  This is going to be an interesting one."
Me-"You don't think I can pull it off?"
Alex-"....silence...."
So I flipped it around, hacked it into a moderate fishtail skirt, and threw an even more obnoxious gold belt on it.

Add RayBans. Add Headband.  Place arms on hips and grimace.  Yields one force to be reckoned with.
Okay...so maybe it's not my favorite transformation that I've done, but hey it cost me three dollars.

Landscape Photography

I have been in love with photography for several years now.  Many people prefer portrait, but I truly feel that landscape photography is my thing.  Every time I go on a vacation, I am completely seduced by the landscapes and absolutely love capturing them in photos.  Most recently, I went to Florida with my family for Christmas!  Here are a few of my favorite photos.

Another nice thing about landscape, is that the trees don't get mad at you if your picture makes them look fat.  You are your only critic.  It is difficult to please others with pictures of them, but the flaws in nature happen to be the most beautiful things you can capture.

My favorite thing to capture is light.  It can be difficult because it will literally change in a split second.  My camera usually yells at me for overexposure, but I can't help it.  I love the look.

They love their golf carts in Florida, always getting in the way. :)  I love that little pocket of happiness tucked in there in the last one.  It's like a secret I found.  Anyway, hope you enjoyed.  All photos belong to me and yada yada yada.

Lady Crush: Ginnifer Goodwin

I have been neglecting this blog due to illness/school completely curbstomping me, which is truly awful and I apologize.  I have some things I can't wait to show you, but until I'm feeling a little better...I am providing you with someone I look to for inspiration.

We all have those celebrities that we simply adore.  For me, my main gal is Ginnifer Goodwin.  I think she may be just about the cutest thing on the whole planet.  I so envy her bold style, and how she pulls it off while looking so purely sweet at the same time.

She told Lucky magazine in a 2011 interview, "I'm three different sizes" says Goodwin, gesturing to her tiny waist, narrow shoulders, and what she calls her "womanly" hips.  "I buy things that are big and tailor them down...Things look better when I embrace my body."

I feel as though that is the most empowering part of altering clothing.  You can make adjustments to the clothes to flatter your body rather than blaming your body for the things that are bothering you.  It is truly an amazing feeling to not carry around that weight (bahah, no pun intended).  Looking at clothes and saying "How can I fix this?" is a lot more fun than saying "How can I fix me?"  I truly believe that every body-type has a certain style that let's them flaunt it and feel beautiful.  Also, the Valentino dress she is wearing in the left, probably my favorite thing I've ever seen.  Too bad I'll never afford it.
